There exists an extensive variety
of valves from ball valves to check valves to gate valves.
Here is a very complete list of water valves:
Well valves
- Ball valves
- Sediment faucets
- Spring loaded check valves
- Spring loaded foot valves
- Gate valves
- Pressure relief valves
Check valves
- Twin door check valves
- Wafer check valves
- Globe check valves

Foot valves
- Flanged foot valves
Gas valves
- Fast fill valves
- Dual control valves
- Pressure reducing valves
- Relief valves
- Mixing valves
- Gas ball valves
Sump valves
- Sump check valves

Valves are devices for controlling the flow of
water in a pipe by means of an opening that shuts or partially
blocks the passage of the liquid. Some valves operate automatically.
Check valves permit flow in one direction only. Valves can
now control not only the flow, but the rate, volume, pressure
and direction of liquids, gases, slurries or dry materials
through a pipeline, chute or similar passageway. There are
seven basic types of valves: globe, gate, needle, plug (or
cock), butterfly, poppet, and spool.
Valves can control flow of all types, from the thinnest
gas to superheated steam to abrasive slurries. They can
handle temperatures from cryogenic region to molten metal,
and pressures from high vacuum to thousands of PSI. The
valve is one of the most indispensable inventions in our
society. It is needed in almost all manufacturing processes.
